Nigeria goalkeeper Dele Aiyenguba has rejected accusations he is responsible for Nigeria’s failure to qualify for next year’s African Cup of Nations despite conceding two goals against Guinea.
"I personally feel unhappy that we didn't qualify for the Nations Cup and I still can't explain why it is so but I don't think one person should be singled out for the blame because all of us took part in the match,” Aiyenugba told SuperSport.com.
"If we had won and qualified we will all take the credit. But now that we [missed out on qualifying], I believe we should all take the blame for failing and not say it was Dele or someone else who caused it.”
However, the 27year-old apologized to the fans for the team’s failure to qualify for the tournament.
“Our fans deserve more than qualifying for the Nations Cup but we have let them down," he said.
